Retired bus drivers cannot work full time and therefore have to take off one of every 10 days they work, or approximately two days per month. MPS currently has 31 retiree drivers meaning Thornton has to get creative to work around absences from more than 20 percent of his drivers.

On Monday, nine schools started opening at 6:45 a.m. Two schools had already begun receiving students earlier, and the idea is to get those students to school earlier so 11 drivers have time to go back out and cover another route.
Applications are being accepted for a full-time driver and substitute bus drivers. The position may involve morning and/or afternoon routes. Applicants must have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to relate well with students, and have or be able to acquire proper driving certification through the State of Nebraska. MPS pays for the necessary training to obtain CDL license and School Bus Permit. The District pays for all training and licenses.
911 Driving School has a goal to provide a superior service, with the ultimate goal of giving new drivers the proper knowledge and skills necessary for a lifetime of safe driving. Completion of this course typically takes 90-120 days after the student completes the classroom phase but has a maximum of 180 days to fully complete their drives.
New drivers must complete a Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) approved Driver's Education Course consisting of a minimum of thirty (30) hours classroom instruction and six (6) hours behind the wheel instruction training. The Maryland driving school will electronically submit verification of completion to the MVA. New drivers must also present the completed skills practice log and completed certification page along with your unexpired Maryland learner's instructional permit.
Upon completion of the course, students will receive an MV-285 Student Certificate of Completion from New York State. This certificate includes the NY pre-licensing 5-hour course requirements, an insurance reduction certificate, and allows 17-year-old drivers to upgrade to a senior license.

That is because the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations apply to interstate commerce, so crossing the line does not affect the use of the 100-air-mile radius exemption.
